Jacqueline Shinall Coaching and Therapy Experience

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Rutgers Center for Adult Autism Services (RCAAS)
Social Skills group:
Young adults between the ages of 18 and 35 participated in a 16-week social skills group

Social Skills Individual Sessions:
Provided 1-to-1 social skills training to adults with autism based on their individual goals (e.g., trying to make a friend, trying to date, sustaining a conversation, etc.).

Psychological Services Center (PSC) of RCAAS
Individual Therapy:
Provided weekly therapy using integrative methods and individualized therapeutic techniques. I utilize evidence-based techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and behavioral modification integrated with a psychodynamic approach of understanding an individual as a whole across the lifespan (i.e., how impactful childhood events and experiences are on our current mental health). These sessions were aiming to help adults on the autism spectrum understand themselves better, especially in the context of a new autism diagnosis, as well as helping them understand the intentions of others. Additionally, adults often sought help for reducing anxiety around uncertainty and repetitive thoughts.

Family Consultation:
Often times, parents and spouses are doing all they can to be supportive. However, they often do not know HOW they can support the client. I worked with parents and spouses to help them understand what they could do to provide the client with the space and tools to apply skills and knowledge they learn during therapy.

Rutgers Center for Psychological Services (CPS)
Individual Weekly Therapy:
I provided both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy to adults seeking mental health services. Presenting problems typically included generalized anxiety/worry, depression, and stress management.

University of Pennsylvania, Perelman School of Medicine
Individual Weekly Therapy:
I provided evidence-based therapy for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, specific phobias, and generalized anxiety.

Parent Consults:
I regularly met with the parents of my clients to ensure consistency across environments and to ensure the skills and knowledge are being applied at home.

Transition Employment Unlimited
Job Coaching:
Provided on-site and off-site support for adolescents and adults with autism or mental health challenges. Coaching included the soft skills necessary for the workplace (e.g., greetings, asking questions, prioritizing tasks, etc.), and the skills necessary to be successful at the job (e.g., methods for improving efficiency).
